Oswego Works
On September 10, 2002 the local Port of Authority of Oswego donated a piece of land to the Habitat for Humanity affiliate in a dedication ceremony. Alcan Oswego Works, Entergy Nuclear Northeast, and Habitat all had big plans for this lot of land. The plan was to build a decent and affordable home for a local family in need. The project was a labor of love for nearly 100 volunteers. Alcan recruited more than 70 employees from Alcan which equates to approximately 10% of the plant’s workforce.
"When the LeLiveres family applied to become a Habitat partner family, they expressed that their chances were like winning the lottery", stated Cheryl Ascenzi, Employee & Community Service Leader. In the end, the LeLiveres were selected to become the new owner’s of the Habitat home. "Upon being selected, the family felt that they were blessed with the opportunity to become homeowners and realize the American dream."
